When a person has a disability, it can be visible or non-visible. The Township of Minden Hills recognizes that persons with disabilities should be provided with an equal opportunity to access goods, services and information in a manner consistent with the principles of independence, dignity, integration and equality.

Accessibility for Ontarians Act, 2005 |
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) is an important accessibility law. The goal is to create provincial accessibility standards and make Ontario completely accessible by 2025. Governments, businesses, and other private organizations that provide goods, services, and facilities to people in Ontario will have to meet accessibility standards. The following are the standards in the Integrated Accessibility Standards under the AODA:

Bell Canada |
Bell Canada offers The Bell Relay Service (BRS) which supports communication by phone between hearing people and people who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, or those with speech disabilities. Professionally trained operators act as intermediaries to facilitate the call. Bell Relay operators are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Hydro One |
Hydro One offers a specialized service where you can register yourself as a sensitive customer and obtain a “Vital Services” package. If you qualify, this package provides you with priority status in an outage and may also provide a discount(s) on services if you meet Hydro One's requirements on in home use of a medical device. Ontario Provincial Police Self Reporting |
The Ontario Provincial Police offers a citizen self-reporting program and the ability to receive emergency calls for service via Text with 911 (T9-1-1) from people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired (DHHSI) and for which the OPP is the Primary Public Safety Answering Point (P-PSAP). |

Post-Election Accessibility Report |
In accordance with section 12.1(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Clerk shall provide a report, within 90 days after voting day in a regular election, about the identification, removal and prevention of barriers that affect electors and candidates with accessibility needs. This report outlines the various initiatives undertaken during the course of the 2018 Municipal Election regarding the identification, removal and prevention of barriers that affect electors and candidates with disabilities. |
