Tree and Bench Memorial Program
What is the Memorial Tree and Bench Program?
We strive to preserve and protect the natural landscape for our residents and visitors alike. The Memorial Tree and Bench Program is one way for relatives and friends to take part in this important cause. The gift of a tree is a lasting tribute that benefits the community and natural environment, and memorial benches offer a unique remembrance of a loved one in one of Minden Hills' many beautiful settings.
The Program operates on a full cost-recovery basis while contributing to the “greening” of Minden Hills and increasing park and cemetery amenities.
How Do I Purchase a Tree or Bench?
If you would like to donate a tree or bench to one of our beautiful parks, cemeteries or facilities, please complete a Memorial Tree and Bench Program Request Form. Send completed forms to the Community Services Department.
- Application deadline for Spring planting is April 1st of each year
- Application deadline for Fall planting is September 1st of each year
What can I Purchase?
Trees |
The gift of a tree is a lasting tribute and will benefit the community, off-set carbon footprints and be appreciated by visitors for decades to come. In the event that the tree should die, become diseased or vandalized, the Memorialized Tree will be replaced by the Township, at no charge to the applicant, within three years of the original planting date. The Township reserves the right to determine and limit the species requested in the Memorial Tree program. Tree species are determined by availability and design plans for the space. Trees will be 50 mm caliper or larger. Trees are required to be a native species to the area. The trees in the following list are acceptable species for the Memorial Tree Program:

Benches |
Memorial benches are a popular choice as a special remembrance of a loved one. Memorial benches and associated plaques will be maintained by the Township for a maximum of 5 years, at no cost to the applicant. Bench and plaque repair/replacement after 5 years will be charged to the applicant if they wish to continue supporting the Memorial Bench Program. |
Plaques |
Memorial Trees will receive a plaque recognizing the donor, type of tree and where the tree is located. Plaques for Memorial Benches will be affixed after installation is complete. Benches will have the plaque placed on the back rest. Bench plaques may contain the words "in honor of" or "in memory of" as appropriate. Please note that there may be extended lead time to allow for the installation process. |
