Planner
We are currently seeking an energetic and motivated individual to join our Building/Bylaw/Planning team as the Planner. Responsibilities include the review and analysis of land development proposals, research and preparation of reports for consideration by Council and the Committee of Adjustment; interpretation and analysis of Planning documents and policies; responding to requests for Planning information and managing GIS productions and procedures. Reporting to the Manager of Planning Services, the Planner provides general operational support to the functioning of the Building, By-law and Planning Department.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A post-secondary education or University degree in Planning or related discipline is required.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in progressively responsible related positions is required.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act regulations and procedures, the Provincial Policy Statement and other related legislation and guidelines is required.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge and experience in municipal planning procedures and land development application procedures.
- Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suites and GIS software is required, with a preference towards the Esri ArcGIS platform being preferred.
- Demonstrated management, organizational and leadership ability is required.
- Advanced ability to communicate effectively and address concerns, complaints and requests with tact, discretion and diplomacy as it relates to a variety of issues and problem situations.
- Proficiency in report writing is required.
- Flexible, adaptable and responsive to change.
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, and the ability to deal with multiple demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eligibility for membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) or other related professional organization is preferred.
- Professional designation as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) is an asset.
- Experience in the supervision of unionized staff and the administration of employment policies, is an asset.
- Experience in preparing Risk Management Plans as well as a Certificate of completion for the provincial Risk Management Official training is an asset.
This position involves office work with periods of sitting, typing, and using office equipment. Interruptions are common. Meetings requiring intense periods of concentration and minute taking. Site inspections require light physical demands outside of normal office working conditions.
