Minden Hills Township Declares State of Emergency due to Ice Storm
Minden Hills Declares State of Emergency
The Township of Minden Hills has declared a State of Emergency, March 31, 2025, in response to the severe ice storm that hit our area and the escalating impacts.
The decision comes as prolonged freezing rain has caused widespread power outages, hazardous road conditions, downed trees and hydro lines, and damage to public and private infrastructure. Areas of the Township are also experiencing network outages and disruptions. These outages and disruptions are impacting the Township’s communication channels – phones, internet and email.
The Township Emergency Operations Centre has been established and is monitoring conditions, working with the Province, County, and neighbouring municipalities to address conditions.
The S.G. Nesbitt Memorial Arena (55 Parkside St., Minden) is open to the public as an information and warming centre.
➡️Township Services Update:
• All Township facilities are temporarily closed due to the emergency situation. This includes the Township Administration Office and Minden Hills Cultural Centre.
• There may be road closures due to downed trees and powerlines.
• Scotch Line Landfill is operating on regular winter hours.
➡️Crews are still assessing damage on Township roads, facilities, and waste disposal sites.
🔘Power restoration may take several days in some areas due to the scale of damage. Ontario Hydro is working on power outages in the area. To report an outage, please text “outage” to 92887 (WATTS), or call 1-800-434-1235. For power outage updates, please visit hydroone.com/outages.
Conditions are evolving rapidly, and service statuses may change with little notice. The Township will continue to monitor storm impacts and provide updates on facility status, road conditions, and municipal services through the Township’s website www.mindenhils.ca and social media channels.
⚠️Please avoid unnecessary travel as Hydro One crews respond to downed power lines and power outages and the Township responds to downed trees and tree limbs on roads.
We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we navigate the challenges brought by this major weather event. Our teams are working diligently to address the impacts.
