Release #23-46
SUBJECT: County wide Fire Ban remains in effect
Tuesday June 20, 2023 - Please be advised the complete Fire Ban implemented on June 1, 2023, for all of Haliburton County, including the Township of Minden Hills, remains in effect.
All Burn and Fireworks Permits are suspended until further notice, all open fires and campfires are prohibited during the Fire Ban.
Additionally, on June 1, 2023, a “restricted fire zone” was instituted by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) for much of the province including Haliburton County. Please visit the government of Ontario website for information about the current forest fire danger, forest fire activity and fire restrictions across the province.
Since June 1, 2023, there has not been much rain. Many factors are considered in the decision to continue the Fire Ban including the strain on firefighting resources, forecasted temperatures, air conditions, minimal rainfall, and the ongoing wildfires in the province, as many of the wildland firefighters and equipment to combat any new fires within our area may already be deployed trying to stop those active fires.
We understand the desire to enjoy summer campfires and outdoor cooking. To help keep the community and environment safe, it is critical there are no outdoor fires of any kind. Only propane BBQs are permitted for food preparation purposes and shall be extinguished immediately after use. The ban includes campfires, bonfires, fireworks, charcoal BBQs, outdoor candles and lanterns, Tiki torches, chimineas and the burning of leaves or brush.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Any persons setting an outdoor fire shall be responsible for any damage to property or injury to persons and be liable for all costs incurred by the Fire Department, and or MNRF. Contravention of these restrictions will result in fines.
For more information, please visit www.mindenhills.ca for accurate updates. The Minden Hills Fire Department will continue to monitor the fire hazard and post updates as required. Information on fire intensity codes and wildfires can be found at www.ontario.ca.
For more information and accurate updates, please visit www.mindenhills.ca. or the MNRF webpage.
The MFD will continue to monitor the fire hazard and post updates, as required.
