Release #22-27
Subject: Increased Bear Activity at Scotch Line Landfill
Residents are advised that there has been increase in black bear activity in and around the Scotch Line Landfill over the past number of days.
The bears are not currently encroaching on the areas that are accessible to the public, however, if you encounter a bear(s) while passing through the landfill, Township Staff are asking that you DO NOT stop for any reasons such as taking photographs. Vehicles that stop and interact with the bears only encourage the bears and they grow even more accustomed to being near humans.
If you spot a bear(s) near the waste drop off area, please inform a Landfill Attendant. If in doubt, please stay in your vehicle.
Bears can be unpredictable and residents are asked to respect the bears’ space for the safety of all residents and bears.
