Fire Restrictions During Fire Season
Fire Restrictions During Fire Season
April 1 to October 31 of every year is considered fire season. During fire season the fire restrictions are from 7:00 AM till 7:00 PM daily (daytime burning). No person shall start a fire outdoors during the restricted time in fire season.
The Open Air Fires By-law regulates open air burning including when and what materials can be burned. The by-law permits the burning of piled wood, brush, leaves, or discarded wood products, note that burning of garbage and waste is prohibited.
The following rules apply to all fires, regardless of the time of day:
a) A responsible person is available and in attendance at all times until the fire is completely extinguished.
b) The material is burned in a single pile that is less than two (2) metres in diameter and less than two (2) metres high.
c) Only burn wood or by-products of wood.
d) Not burn noxious or restricted waste materials.
e) Fire must be at least three (3) metres from combustible materials, property line, buildings, fences, trees and roadway.
f) The responsible person has tools and/or extinguishing agent adequate to contain and completely extinguish the fire.
g) The fire is completely extinguished before the burn site is vacated.
Any persons setting an outdoor fire shall be responsible for any damage to property or injury to persons and be liable for all costs incurred by the Fire Department. Contravention of these restrictions will result in fines. To view the Open Air Fire By-law visit www.mindenhills.ca/en/living-here/open-air-fires-and-fireworks.aspx.
A total ban against outdoor burning and fireworks may be declared when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances warrant it. It is YOUR responsibility to be aware of fire bans.
