Part-Time Waste Facilities Operator
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to join our Public Works Department as a Waste Facilities Operator. Reporting to the Manager of Waste Facilities, the Waste Facilities Operator is responsible for the overall maintenance of the Township Landfill and ensures the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the site.
This is a permanent part-time, position. Hours are up to and including twenty-four (24) hours/ week, typically being Saturday and Sunday but are subject to change. Hours of work will be between the hours of 7:30 AM and 7:00 PM, depending on winter and summer hours of operation. The current rate of pay is $28.81/hour.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- A minimum of one (1) year recent experience in the same or similar position is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience operating at least two (2) of the following is required; backhoe, excavator, loader, roll-off truck, tandem axle truck, single axle truck, pick-up with plow, is required.
- Certifications and training from Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) or equivalent, or willingness to obtain, is required.
- Bear Awareness training, or willingness to obtain is required.
- A good understanding of waste facility operations and maintenance procedures and the ability to identify construction and maintenance deficiencies is required.
- Possession and ability to keep a valid “DZ” Driver’s License is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid standard First Aid & CPR/AED certification is an asset.
- Certificate in Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 is an asset.
- Chainsaw training is an asset.
This position involves working outdoors, exposed to weather elements and environmental hazards.
Prior to the final selection for this position, the candidate shall be required to provide, at their own expense, a Background Check from the Ontario Provincial Police or appropriate Police Force.
