Canada Day 2020

This year Canada Day will look a little different in Minden. Due to the provincial restrictions and guidelines for social distancing and the health and safety measures that continue to be implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Township of Minden Hill’s traditional Canada Day event and celebrations are cancelled for 2020.

This difficult but necessary decision was made to ensure the safety and health of everyone in our community and beyond. Council and Staff of Minden Hills encourage everyone to celebrate Canada Day wherever you are and to connect with your family and friends in a safe and responsible way. Please abide by public health measures while celebrating Canada Day to prevent the spread of the virus and to keep our community safe. For more information, please visit https://covid-19.ontario.ca/.

While our traditional celebrations may have been cancelled, the Township is excited to offer a few unique and fun alternatives for celebrating this year.

Show us how you will be celebrating Canada Day this year in true M.I.N.D.E.N style! The Township is hosting a photo contest where the winners will receive a gift certificate to a local Minden business of their choice! Participating is fun and easy to do. Simply pick a category (or categories) from the supplied list, get creative with Canada Day themed ideas, take a photo and submit it, along with a completed Photo Submission form to the Township.  Entries will be judged on creativity, and how they tie in with Canada Day within the chosen category.

Categories:

Maple Leaves and Maple Syrup: Use the maple leaf or other uniquely Canadian themes as your inspiration for face painting, decorating hair and/or nails or costumes.

Imagination: Get Creative! For kids and kids of all ages! Can you make Canada Day Christmas in July? How do you make a gathering of 10 people look like 20? And don’t forget that pets love Canada Day too!

Nature: Do you have an amazing flower or vegetable garden worth showing off? What about backyard (or barnyard) wildlife?

Doors, Patios and Balconies: Decorate your backyard, front yard, windows, doors or balconies in an explosion of red and white!
